Grand Prairie Dental Crowns
Committed to Providing a Friendly, Relaxing Environment
“If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.” This old adage may apply in some cases, but it certainly does not apply to your tooth. While many people have a great fear of the dentist, delaying checkups is never a good idea, because it ultimately causes much deeper problems. Our patients who attend our practice frequently to have their teeth cleaned rarely suffer from the teeth damage present in the patients have who avoid coming in until they cannot stand the pain. That being said, even with the best of intentions, you might have an accident, injury, or other unavoidable misfortune which has led to the loss of a crown or two. When this is the case, you need to immediately contact Great Southwest Family Dental and Implants so that we can repair and protect your tooth with a crown before further harm occurs.
The cap portion of your tooth, also known as a crown, is a special covering used to coat the surface of the entire tooth. This allows it to be restored to both its normal size and shape after being damaged. When fillings or other restorations do not work, a crown offers supreme protection and strength for the rest of your tooth and jaw structure.

Types of Crowns
We offer many types of crowns because every patient’s needs, desires, and budgets are different.
The most popular kind of crown we offer are made out of porcelain, with the exact same color of your original, natural teeth. Due to their high durability, these teeth will last many years if you take care of them – although of course they will eventually need to be replaced every once in a while. If you choose to get our porcelain crowns, you can be that there will be a happy reflection in your mirror every morning.
The Crown Procedure
When you are in line to receive a beautiful new crown, two major steps need to occur. First, you will have an initial appointment, which involves us taking detailed “impressions” or molds of your teeth, all to make the perfect customized crown. To keep your tooth safe, you will wear a temporary crown for about two weeks as you wait for your new crown to arrive.
During your second visit, the dentist will numb both the tooth and the surrounding gums to keep you feeling comfortable and calm. Then the new crown will be safely placed onto the base of your tooth, and the dentist will carefully check that it accurately fits your bite.
